New Video: ‘King Troup’ x Young Thug

By  |

Young Thug’s choice to create outlandish lyrics, reminiscent of the Hip Hop verbiage used by Lil’ Wayne, often overshadows his actual skill set. But in a tribute to the life of King Troup, a Young Thug supporter and close friend, Thugger eloquently details his feelings towards the loss of a companion and confidant.

Keith B. Troup was killed in the inner city streets of Atlanta, Georgia, a harsh environment privy to drug and gun violence. With lyrics like, “Stop the killin’, we get millions,” and “We together,” Thug promotes positivity and unification within Atlanta’s urban communities. The track “King Troup” serves as a definite twist to Young Thug’s usual mantra of violence, the sexual exploitation of women, and the maniacal effects of drug abuse. Although these topics are still present within the song, the overall message of the track is uplifting. “King Troup” served as track 4 on Thugger’s EP I’m Up, a project released February 5th of this year. In what we believe is an attempt to continue the celebration of Troup’s life, the video is dropped two months after the release of the EP.
